Installation

Installation:

-         Download the Perkulator Portal from www.perkulator.com .

-         Open “Internet Information Services” or “Internet Management System”, depending on what version of Windows you are running.

 

 

-         On the left side navigation, expand the items by clicking the “[+]” icons, until you see an item called “Web Sites”. Expand the “Web Sites” item.

-         You should now see an item called “Default Web Site”. Right click on this item, and select “new”, then select “Web Site”.

 

 

o       Depending on what version of Windows you are running, you might only see “Virtual Directory” as the only option to click after selecting “new”. If this is the case, simply click “Virtual Directory”.

 

 

-         Follow the setup wizard as provided by Windows. For the sake of this tutorial, we will assume you called your new website “Perkulator”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

-         After following the setup wizard as provided by Windows, from having clicked either “web site” or “virtual directory”: now find your newly created website “Perkulator” in the list of websites that exists below the “Default Web Site” website.

-         Right click on “Perkulator”, go to “Properties”.

 

-         If you set up a “Virtual Directory”, follow these steps:

o       “Virtual Directory” tab

§         The local path should be pointing to the Perkulator portal’s root directory location.

§         The “Read” checkbox should be checked.

§         The “Execute Permissions” should say “Scripts and Executables”

§         The “Application Protection” should be at least “Medium”, but “High” is recommended.

 

 

-         If you set up a “Web Site”, follow these steps:

o       “Web Site” tab

§         Click “Advanced” next to the “Ip address” and make sure all of your website urls for this portal are added here.

 

 

o       “Home Directory” tab

§         The local path should be pointing to the Perkulator portal’s root directory location.

§         The “Read” checkbox should be checked.

§         The “Execute Permissions” should say “Scripts and Executables”

§         The “Application Pool” should be a pool that you have created yourself, a pool that only Perkulator portals on your server use.

·        Application pools are easy to create. You should see “Application Pools” as another [+] expandable item located under “Internet Information Services” (the program you should already have open)

·        Right click on “Application Pools”, “New”, “Application Pool…”.

·        Give it a name, Application pool ID, such as “Perk 2.0”. Use default settings.

 

 

-         If you set up a “Web Site” OR a “Virtual Directory”, also follow these steps:

o       “Documents” tab

§         “Default.aspx” should be the 1st item in the list of default documents. If it is not, move it up. If it is not there, add it and move it up.

 

 

o       “ASP.NET” tab

§         The “ASP.NET version” should say “2.0.*****” where the asterisks should really be numbers, the highest 2.0 version you can select from the dropdownlist.

 

 

o       “Custom Errors” tab

§         Scroll down to the “404” HTTP Error. Select it. Click “Edit”.

§         Change the “Message Type” to “URL”

§         Change the “URL” to “/_.aspx”, without the quotes.

 

 

o       “HTTP Headers” tab

§         “Enable content expiration” should always be checked.

§         “Expire Immediately” should always be checked.
